Our Home-based Detox Service
Home-based Detox is an effective alternative to treatment in a residential clinic and can provide an appropriate, medically supervised, way to clear your body of alcohol or drugs. Delivery of our high quality service in your own home enhances confidentiality and substantially reduces costs.
Treatment usually extends over a week to ten days.
The Advantages
- Quickly accessible: there is no waiting list; within a couple of working days (or just a little longer in some parts of the UK) our appointed medical practitioner will visit you at a convenient time to assess your needs and begin your treatment.
- Medically safe: if the examination indicates it is safe to do so, the doctor will prescribe a range of treatments to help your body work healthily without drugs or alcohol. These prevent dramatic reactions such as seizures, alcohol-related fits and frightening withdrawal symptoms. At first you may need a strong sedative and medicines to help you sleep but then the level of medication will steadily reduce as your body readjusts.
- Practical and workable: home-based treatment does not interrupt your normal life in the way that residential treatment does; there is no need to put a stop on many of your normal activities.
- Cost Effective: remaining at home for your detox offers you a big saving over treatment in residential accommodation. Even if you need extra support, the cost savings will be greater for similar services.
- Private and confidential: from the security of your own home, you don’t need to let anyone know about your treatment. You don’t need to worry about any consequences at work and, if you wish, there may be no need even to tell your GP.
- Nursing and Therapy: in the short term we provide a nurse to help you during your detox. You can also call our 24/7 helpline if any complications arise or if you have urgent questions. The long-term aim is for you to remain alcohol and drug free and so our programme includes your first month of help from a skilled therapist who will help you learn how to do that.
- Help and support: after your detox, you will need after-care and on-going coaching. The 24 / 7 Helpline is available for support and advice for your family and friends when appropriate
